Posted Date: 03/04/26 (08:45 AM)

Earlier this year, Early County High School Government teacher Mr. Craig Dempsey was selected as one of only 25 educators in Georgia to participate in the Civic Sunrise Grant, providing six ECHS students with immersive, real-world civic learning opportunities. After representing Early County at the Georgia Youth Assembly in December, these students recently traveled to Atlanta once again—this time to participate in the Youth in Government Expo.During the Expo, students engaged in hands-on simulations designed to deepen their understanding of government operations and public leadership. The National Security Team—Tayden Cody, Madalynn Moses, and Kenneth Stivers-Charfauros—participated in a series of national security simulations. These activities included ciphering codes, responding to chemical endangerment scenarios, and making critical decisions regarding county security and public safety.
The Governance Team—Mackenzie Sapp, London Sherman, and Thomas McFay—developed and defended a community involvement proposal. They also took part in simulations focused on budgeting, resource allocation, and local government decision-making.
While in Atlanta, the group had the opportunity to meet Dr. Randall Trammell, who oversees the program, further strengthening the connection between classroom learning and real-world civic leadership.
Through the Civic Sunrise Grant, Mr. Dempsey continues to provide students with meaningful experiences that bring government to life and prepare them to be informed, engaged citizens. Early County School System is proud of these students for representing their school and community with excellence.
