At Early County School System, teaching and learning are our top priorities. Assessment and accountability support that mission by helping us understand how well students are mastering standards and where growth is needed.

Some standardized assessments are required by law. While these tests are an important part of our accountability system, they are one of several tools we use to understand student progress and school performance.

We set clear goals for student learning, celebrate when those goals are achieved, and adjust our practices when improvement is needed. Student performance matters because it reflects growth. Our commitment is to ensure every student learns more, grows more, and achieves more in an ECSS classroom.

2025-2026 ECSS Assessment Plan

In accordance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), all students are required to participate in statewide assessments, including students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.

Early County School System uses the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA) 2.0 for eligible students who receive instruction based on Georgia’s extended content standards. These standards are aligned to the state’s academic content standards but are taught with reduced depth, breadth, and complexity to appropriately support individual learning needs.

GAA 2.0 provides students with significant cognitive disabilities access to challenging academic expectations and a meaningful way to demonstrate their knowledge and progress.

For detailed information about the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA) 2.0, including eligibility requirements, administration guidelines, and state policies, please visit the Georgia Department of Education’s GAA 2.0 webpage.

The Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS) is a comprehensive summative assessment program spanning grades 3 through high school.  Georgia Milestones measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state-adopted content standards in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.  Students in grades 3 through 8 take an end-of-grade assessment in each content area, while high school students take an end-of-course assessment for each of the ten courses designated by the State Board of Education.

Georgia Milestones serves as a key component of the state's accountability system - the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI).

The College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) is Georgia’s annual tool for measuring how well its schools, districts, and the state itself are preparing students for the next educational level. It provides a comprehensive roadmap to help educators, parents, and community members promote and improve college and career readiness for all students.

The Georgia Department of Education typically releases CCRPI scores around the midpoint of a school year. These scores are based on the data from the prior school year. To view the past years' scores for any county or school in Georgia, please follow this link.
