Following the recent and sudden loss of Board Member Trey Harrell, two steps are required to fill the District 1 seat on the Early County Board of Education.

First, District 1 has been added to the May 19, 2026 General Election ballot, along with Districts 3 and 4.

 - All individuals elected to the Board of Education from the May 19th election will take office on January 1, 2027.

Second, because the vacancy occurred outside of the 90-day window prior to the election, Georgia law requires the Board to appoint someone to serve for the remainder of this calendar year.

 - The Board will make this appointment after the March 25, 2026 application deadline, and the appointed member will serve through December 31, 2026.

District 1 residents who meet the qualifications are encouraged to apply.
